Calm is Contagious

This week, former SAS Commander, Author and winner of #survivorAU (@mark.a.wales) was my podcast guest.

We have the idea that an SAS Soldier or a Navy SEAL or Commando will be all noise, threat and twitchy danger.

Nope.

Like every person I’ve met who have served in intense combat - he was incredibly calm and measured. Completely centred, up there with the most sandalwood smelling, linen wearing yogi. Which makes sense because in a high-stakes job like a soldier (or cop or firefighter) that skill is probably the most important skill you could have. Staying calm saves lives.

One of my favourite quotes comes from a Master Chief at the Navy Seal academy, a man who served in Vietnam, who famously said “Calm is contagious”.

In today’s episode I’ll take you through the exact breathing techniques used by people who work in the highest-stakes situations on the planet, so that they continue to make good choices under stress.
