447: David Knoff's Mental Health and Resilience Techniques learned through 537 days of Antarctic Covid Lockdown

David Knoff is an Antarctic Expedition Leader, an Author, and a leadership expert who specialises in remote leadership, hostile environment diplomacy, and resilience.

He served with the Australian Army and has been deployed to diplomatic postings in both Pakistan & Iraq.

When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, David was Station Leader at Davis Station, Antarctica, where he was leading a team of just 24 through the isolation of an Antarctic winter.

A 365 day rotation turned into a 537 day stay, navigating the tension, the anxiety and the challenges of not knowing how long they’d be stuck there, or when someone would come for them.

The book is called 537 Days of Winter - and well worth the read, taking in an Emergency Medical Evacuation, Stifling Isolation and even Dress-Ups.
